Surface Treatment & Finishing Services
Protective and Decorative Finishes for Precision Metal Components
Surface Finishing for Performance and Protection
Surface finishing is more than appearance. The right treatment improves corrosion resistance, wear resistance, product lifetime and overall performance.
Key benefits:
- Variety Surface Treatment Processes
- Powder Coating, Anodizing, Passivation and Plating
- RoHS & REACH Compliance Support
- Salt Spray Testing Available
- RAL Colour Matching
- Prototype to Volume Production
Flexcision provides access to a broad range of metal surface treatment processes through qualified manufacturing partners, including powder coating, anodizing, plating, passivation, blasting, polishing and laser marking. Surface treatment is coordinated as part of our integrated manufacturing service, with supplier qualification, process requirements and quality expectations managed by Flexcision. Process selection is reviewed during quotation and DFM assessment to ensure the appropriate finish is matched to the material, application and project requirements.

Why Surface Treatment Matters
Surface finishing directly influences:
- Corrosion resistance
- Product appearance
- Environmental compliance
- Product lifetime
- Wear resistance
Selecting the appropriate coating process at the design stage can significantly reduce maintenance costs and improve product durability.
Our engineering team supports coating selection during quotation and DFM review.
Surface finishing is selected according to the component material, operating environment and functional requirements. For example, powder coating or zinc plating may be used to improve corrosion resistance in outdoor or humid environments, while hard anodizing can improve wear resistance and surface hardness on aluminium components.
Chemical conversion coatings may be selected where electrical conductivity and corrosion protection are both required. For stainless steel components used in medical, clean or corrosion-sensitive applications, passivation or electropolishing may be considered.
Process overview
Surface Treatment Capabilities
Each finishing family covers a defined set of options. Polyester and epoxy powder coating are available in standard and custom RAL colours with gloss, semi-gloss and matte finishes. Anodizing of aluminium parts is offered clear, black, hard and in custom colours. Stainless steel passivation and electropolishing are used where corrosion resistance and surface cleanliness matter more than colour, which is typical for semiconductor and medical components.
| Process | Material | Main Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Powder Coating | Steel / Aluminium | Corrosion Protection |
| Wet Painting | Steel / Aluminium | Appearance Flexibility |
| Standard Anodizing | Aluminium | Corrosion Resistance |
| Hard Anodizing | Aluminium | Wear Resistance |
| Chemical Conversion Coating | Aluminium | Electrical Conductivity |
| Passivation | Stainless Steel | Corrosion Protection |
| Zinc Plating | Steel | Corrosion Resistance |
| Nickel Plating | Steel / Copper | Electrical Contact |
| Sandblasting | Multiple Materials | Surface Preparation |

Industry Applications
Finishing requirements differ by sector, and the same aluminium chassis is treated differently depending on where it ends up. Semiconductor equipment needs conductive grounding surfaces and cleanroom-compatible finishes, medical enclosures and laboratory instruments need cleanable and documented surfaces, industrial machine frames and control cabinets need durable corrosion protection, and battery housings and charging equipment need protection that holds up outdoors.

Multi-Process Capability
Complex finishing combinations completed.
Example:
Sandblasting
→
Hard Anodizing
→
Laser Marking
Finishing runs under ISO 14001 certified operations with RoHS verification and REACH SVHC declarations on request, and coating performance is documented through film thickness measurement, adhesion testing and salt spray testing up to 1000 hours. Multi-process sequences such as sandblasting followed by hard anodizing and laser marking are completed on one production order at Flexcision.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you match RAL colours?
Yes. Standard and custom RAL colours are matched for powder coating and wet painting, in gloss, semi-gloss and matte finishes.
Do you provide salt spray testing?
Yes. Standard testing up to 500 hours and extended testing up to 1000 hours are available.
Are your coatings RoHS compliant?
Yes. RoHS verification is available for the coating systems used, together with the supporting documentation for your own compliance file.
Can you provide REACH declarations?
Yes. REACH SVHC declarations for the coatings and pretreatments used are available on request.
Can you support prototype quantities?
Yes. Prototype and low-volume finishing are supported, and the same processes and colour specification carry over to volume production.
Can several finishing processes be combined on one part?
Yes. Finishing processes are run in sequence on the same production order, for example sandblasting followed by hard anodizing and laser marking. Combining processes in one facility avoids the intermediate shipping and re-inspection steps that come with separate finishing subcontractors.
